RODEO IS HIS BUSINESS |
RODEO IS HIS BUSINESS
When
the chute gates swing open fans and contestants will be assured of plenty of action and
excitement from quality roping stock, bucking horses and bulls.
For
the thirty-two years of its existence, Lester Meier Rodeo Company has hand-picked stock
from Meiers Hill Country ranch near Fredericksburg for the enjoyment
of all. Lester has established a reputation as one of the most honest and
knowledgeable rodeo producers in the business. Each contestant can be assured of,
not only quality stock, but qualified timekeepers and the latest electronic timing
devices.
From
modest beginnings, the Lester Meier Rodeo Company has grown in leaps and bounds. In
1973 the Fredericksburg F.F.A. chapter approached young Meier about furnishing stock for
their junior rodeo. Lester accommodated them even though he only had five practice
bulls at the time. The rodeo was a success and before the season was over, the
23-year-old Meier had contracted four other F.F.A. rodeos in the area.
The
following year, Meier purchased additional bucking and roping stock, produced seven junior
rodeos and was on his way. Lester continues to produce such established open pro
rodeos as the Stonewall Peach Jamboree and Rodeo, Blanco County Fair & Rodeo, Llano
Open Rodeo plus many, many more. The Rodeo Company also produces a number of bull
ridings and over 25 convention rodeos throughout the state.
Lester
can truly relate to the rodeo contestants problems since he was once a bull rider
himself. At his first rodeo in Harper, he took home the winning time in the bull
riding and continued his rodeo career until he was gored by a bull at the 1973 Austin
Livestock Show and Rodeo.
This
ended his days as an active contestant but not his interest in producing rodeos.
Lester and his wife, Holly, work together producing the rodeo events with the help
of their daughters, Charity, 27, and Tiffani, 23. Also youngest daughter, E.A., 8,
helps out whenever needed. In his spare time Lester is a full time rancher, managing
3500 acres of ranch land. This Fredericksburg native also continues to
be very active in the community. He enjoys being involved in the Emmaus Christian
community as well as serving as chairman of the Gillespie County Stock Show Sales
Committee, and has been a Farm Bureau Director for many years. His continuous
efforts have had a great impact on Gillespie and surrounding counties.
